Great Careers Begin Here
"I have never had a more exciting and educational experience in my life."
—Erica Toupes '02

Welcome to 14,200 Acres of Opportunity
Paul Smith's College is set in the Adirondacks of northern New York amid awe-inspiring mountains, sparkling lakes and lush forests. The main campus of the 14,200-acre property lies along the shores of Lower St. Regis Lake. This location provides a safe, comfortable and invigorating environment to obtain baccalaureate or associate degrees. Bachelor's programs include biology; business and entrepreneurial studies; culinary arts and service management; hotel, resort and tourism management, natural resources; environmental sciences, forestry, fisheries and wildlife sciences, liberal arts - nature and culture; and recreation, adventure travel and ecotourism (RATE). Alternatively, careers also begin with a two-year degree in programs such as business; culinary arts; fish and wildlife technology; forest recreation or forest technician; liberal arts; ecology and environment technology; hotel and restaurant management; outdoor recreation; surveying; or urban tree management.

Whether a culinary program, a degree in ecology or a career in forestry is of interest, all students revel in the same setting that inspired some of the most fascinating characters in American history. People such as P.T. Barnum, Teddy Roosevelt, Grover Cleveland, Irving Berlin and Henry Ford enjoyed the pristine outdoor environment and frequented the college's antecedent, Paul Smith's Hotel. No other college campus in the United States offers as much opportunity for outdoor recreation. Hiking, canoeing, kayaking, skiing, snowshoeing, swimming and mountain biking are readily available. With Lake Placid and Whiteface Mountain Ski Area merely 25 miles away, the downhill skiing opportunities abound.

Small Classes, Student Diversity
Students at Paul Smith's never have to worry about getting lost in the shuffle. Small class sizes allow students to realize their potential. The 14:1 student-to-faculty ratio means teachers, mentors and advisors are always close at hand to listen and to encourage individual growth. Although the community is small, the college's scope extends far beyond the Adirondacks. Paul Smith's student population is increasingly culturally diverse with young people coming from around the world. Ireland, Bosnia, Italy, Tibet, Japan and Kenya are countries recently represented within the student body.

The Experience Is the Difference
Extensive hands-on training, fieldwork, internships, externships and experiential learning are what sets Paul Smith's apart from other colleges. Regardless of the program, students start gaining valuable, hands-on experience in each chosen career during the first semester. Forestry, surveying and the environmentally based programs utilize the six million-acre Adirondack Park for a classroom, while the culinary students have new, state-of-the-art kitchens on campus and the college-owned Hotel Saranac as a real-time classroom. Beyond the classroom, a variety of internships and externships offer exciting opportunities to enhance student experience and credentials all the more.

Ninety-nine Percent Job Placement and Transfer Rate
Considering today's competitive job market, Paul Smith's hands-on experience is a smart choice. Upon graduation, opportunities are virtually unlimited, and for the past ten years, the transfer and job placement rate has been a nearly perfect 99 percent!
