Pratt Institute is the leading professional art, design, and architecture school in the country offering just about every major in art and design. Now, Pratt also offers an outstanding creative writing program that attracts talented young writers from all over the country. In fall of 2001, Pratt introduced a new BA in cultural studiesan exciting and challenging liberal arts major for the intellectual student interested in why and how culture is made. The school offers the creative student a world of exciting choices in virtually every creative field available. Pratt's Bachelor of Fine Art programs are for students who know that they want to make a living in one of the fields we teach. Many of our students have known since childhood that they loved drawing, painting, building things, or writing. You may be one of them. The difference between Pratt's program and those offered by traditional colleges and universities is that the curriculum features professional studios from the first year. This opportunity gives our students a leg up when they are ready to enter the work force. (The admissions requirements include evidence of talent in addition to academic ability.)
How do you know whether a professional education in one of these fields is for you? We suggest you spend some time visiting one of the art and literary capitals of the worldNew York City. It's also helpful to visit the largest professional college for the artsPratt Institute.
The thought of New York City and Pratt might be intimidating at first. You are surrounded by people who are intensely involved in their work and who aspire to be the best in their fields. Hesitation quickly becomes inspiration, however, when you realize that you can become part of the art education program at Pratt, a college that has produced some of the world's greatest artists, designers, teachers, and architects. Our alumni are the leaders in their industriessuccessful people making a living at what they love. Our professors come straight from their jobs in leading design firms, publishing houses, and architecture firms to the classroom. They bring with them high standards and the most current skills and practices. They provide a mentoring relationship for our students. Also, when you graduate, your professors will be important connections in landing your ideal job. The Office of Career Services provides guidance along the way and provides you with job listings in their office and now online.
