Algoma University College, an affiliate college of Laurentian University, is home to over 800 students. With over 25 degree programs offered in the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and professional areas, Algoma U is committed to providing personal attention for every student in a distinctive Ontario setting. Algoma U is located in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario at the Canada-US border. Situated in the heart of the Great Lakes, the city is surrounded by lakes, rivers, and forests. With a population of approximately 75,000, the city offers the amenities of a large urban center; shopping, restaurants, theatre, state-of-the-art cinemas, recreation, and professional services in combination with the friendliness, safety, and clean environment of a smaller city.

Algoma U students have the choice of on-campus or off-campus housing.

Student Associations
As a student of Algoma University, you are also a member of the Students' Association (AUSA). The AUSA Board of Directors provides a strong voice for students, promoting their interests and needs, both within and beyond the Algoma U community.

The AUSA is also the hub of student representation within the university. Through the office, students have representation on most Algoma University College bodies and committees, including the Board of Governors, Senate, and numerous Senate committees, i.e.: Academic Planning, Appeals, Curriculum, Student Services, and Ethics.

Algoma University students are also members of the Canadian Federation of Students (CFS), Canada's national student organization. CFS provides a lobbying voice for students. Students at CFS member schools have access to a number of CFS services, including the Student Work Abroad Programme (SWAP), the International Student Identity Card (ISIC), Student Saver, and much more. Your local CFS link is the AUSA Vice-President.

The AUSA office is located in Shingwauk Hall (main building) room GN-2. AUSA provides the following services:

  • essay typing
  • professional resume consultation
  • assistance in buying and selling used text books
  • special events like Novemberfest, March Madness, and weekly pubs

The Native students of Algoma U have an active Shingwauk Aboriginal Student Association (SASA) and are represented on AUSA, the Aboriginal People's Council (an advisory committee of the Algoma U Board of Governors), and the Cross Cultural Committee.

Algoma University College makes offers of admission to students:

  • who are currently in high school
  • with transfer credits from another postsecondary institution
  • with a college diploma
  • who apply as "mature" students
  • who wish to study on a student visa as "international" students
