Why should I fill out financial aid forms?
I probably don't qualify for financial aid, why should I apply?
According to www.finaid.org, many families make the mistake of not applying because they think they won't qualify. The truth of the matter is there are a few sources of aid, such as unsubsidized Stafford loans (student loans in which you pay the interest, not the government) and PLUS loans (loans your parents can take out to help pay for college) that are available regardless of need. Every student applying to college needs to fill out the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid); the due date is usually around March and in some states, mid-February. It would be a shame to prevent yourself from receiving aid by not filling out the free form. And you never know, you could qualify for more than you think. To obtain your FAFSA, stop by your high school guidance office, any college financial aid office, local public library, or call (800) 4-FED-AID. Or, you can now apply for the FAFSA online at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
According to the FAFSA Web site, for the 2000-2001 school year, you can submit your Free Application for Federal Student Aid using FAFSA on the Web from January 3, 2000 until July 2, 2001. You will have until 7:00 p.m. (CT) on July 2, 2001 to submit your application. For the 2000-2001 school year, you can submit changes or updates to your application using FAFSA Correction on the Web form. You have until August 16, 2001 to submit changes.
