Arcadia Students Offer Medical Practices a Chance to Improve Patient Relations
The manner in which patients are treated by members of a medical practice is arguably just as important as the quality of care offered at that practice. Few Americans are unable to identify with the experience of going to the doctor, and this experience can range from comfortable to frustrating to completely aggravating. However, a group of health administration students at Arcadia University is going to help doctors remedy the situation.

Students in the Improving Patient Relations Project (IPRP) have contacted local doctors and practices in order to evaluate how each group handles patients and to advise the practice on ways to improve relations. The students have lined up four offices, where they will examine the patient experience from beginning to end.

"We want to bridge the gap between patients and health care providers," says Bob Kieserman, a professor in the health administration program who is head of the project and calls patient mistreatment one of his pet peeves. "Doctors don't have to spend a lot of money to enhance the patient experience."

The group is scheduled to examine the practices at Abington Pediatrics, the Orthopedic Surgery Outpatient Department at Einstein Medical Center, the office of Dr. Marc Kress, and the office of Dr. Joel Glassman, both in Jenkintown.

Arcadia University is a coeducational, comprehensive university in suburban Philadelphia offering undergraduate and graduate study to 3,000 students annually.
