About Arcadia University

Overview
Arcadia University, a private, comprehensive university, offers a wide variety of liberal arts and professional programs in a personalized setting. Building on 150 years of academic achievement, this coeducational, independent institution combines liberal education and career preparation in its undergraduate programs. Recognizing the pluralism of our nation and the increasing internationalism in business and other institutions, the university is also dedicated to expanding students’ horizons and preparing them to prosper in a culturally diverse world.

Students may pursue undergraduate study at Arcadia University on a full-time or part-time basis; days, evenings, or weekends; for credit or not for credit. The university offers high-quality undergraduate degree programs in more than 40 fields of study, as well as master’s degrees, doctoral degrees, and certificates of advanced study.

An Arcadia University education is rooted in the tradition of liberal arts learning. The academic program is designed to help students acquire a broad understanding of humankind, nature, and society; specialization in a chosen field as a basis for career opportunities, graduate study, or personal satisfaction; and intellectual abilities needed to continue learning throughout life.

Curriculum
Students pursue coursework in English composition, modern languages, mathematics, science, humanities, and social sciences. In addition, two interdisciplinary courses are required: “Justice: Multicultural Interpretations” and “Pluralism in the United States.” In these courses, students focus not only on acquiring factual knowledge, but also on three key processes: critical thinking and analysis, communication, and collaborative efforts that enhance their ability to work effectively with others.

Diversity
Arcadia University offers other resources to help students develop multicultural awareness. Through the Arcadia University Center for Education Abroad, students may participate in any of several dozen programs in Australia, England, Greece, Ireland, Mexico, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Spain, Italy, Korea, Wales, and New Zealand. Through the American Language Academy housed on the Arcadia campus, resident and commuter students can get to know students from foreign countries on a more personal basis. Arcadia University prepares students for life in a rapidly changing global society. As a comprehensive, independent institution, Arcadia University offers men and women a broad range of undergraduate and graduate programs on its suburban Philadelphia campus and through the Center for Education Abroad.

Arcadia University prides itself on meeting the changing educational, career, and developmental needs of students, alumni, and the local community while emphasizing the strengths of a liberal arts education. Non-sectarian, with historic ties to the Presbyterian Church, Arcadia University is committed to serving students of all ages and cultural backgrounds. A dedicated community of teacher-scholars, administrators, staff, and students works in genuine collegiality to create a climate for learning and personal growth based upon intellectual challenge and nurturing relationships.

Student Environment
Arcadia University students have access to an extensive range of services, activities, and opportunities. The university’s programs gain much of their strength and scope from the diversity of the student body. In addition, the American Language Academy serves international English language students who participate in campus activities and add diversity to campus life. The spectrum of campus programs reflects the variety of interests, talents, and academic goals of Arcadia University students.
