Jerry Greiner Named Arcadia University President
Jerry M. Greinerprovost of Hamline University, Minnesota's top ranked comprehensive universitywas named president of Arcadia University (formerly Beaver College) at a special meeting of the board of trustees. Greiner will assume his new position on July 1, 2004.
Greiner, 54, who holds a Ph.D. in psychology, replaces Bette E. Landman, who announced last March that she would retire after 18 years as president and more than three decades of service to Arcadia.
"Arcadia University's stature has risen tremendously in the past decade due to the strong leadership and vision of Dr. Landman," says board chair Joseph L. Castle, II. "The university is poised to take its next significant steps. That is why, after an extensive search, we selected Jerry Greiner. He has an impressive track record at Hamline University, where he played a key role in helping to transform a small college into a top-ten comprehensive university. We are extremely pleased that he will be at the helm as Arcadia writes its next chapter."
The university's national presidential search drew impressive applicants from more than 30 states. The 17-member search committeechaired by trustee Hugh G. Moultonincluded alumni, students, faculty, administrators, staff, and trustees. Final candidates were invited to the Glenside campus to meet with all university constituencies.
Greiner joined Hamline in Saint Paul, Minnesota, in 1975 as an assistant professor of psychology. He became an assistant dean in 1987 and went on to hold several deanships. In 1995, Greiner was named vice president for academic affairs and dean of the College of Liberal Arts. In his current position as provost, which he has held since 1999, Greiner serves as the university's chief academic officer, chief operations officer and chair of University Council. He oversees all of the university's schools, as well as student affairs, enrollment management, information technology, facilities management, and human resources.
A practicing clinical psychologist, Greiner earned his B.A. in psychology from Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, Michigan, in 1971, and his M.A. and Ph.D. in psychology from the University of Cincinnati in 1973 and 1974. He is a founding member of the Associated New American Colleges (ANAC), a national organization that works to highlight and advance the value of comprehensive universities, those that offer both liberal arts and professional studies, such as Arcadia. U.S.News & World Report ranks Hamline first among comprehensive universities in Minnesota for quality and value, and ninth out of 145 Midwest comprehensive universities.

U.S.News & World Report also ranks the university among the top colleges and universities in the North, and Barron's named Arcadia a "best buy" for the past 12 years.
